Compare near and far from the router

Test the same device near the router, then in the problem area, without changing other conditions. Also compare over a cable where possible. The difference helps distinguish signal limitations from internet access problems.

Review the location

Avoid placing the device in a closed cabinet or behind unnecessary obstacles. A location serving your usage areas may help, although walls and distances still matter. No location suits every home.

Identify whether you need an extender

Before buying or subscribing to extra equipment, ask which solution suits your layout. A wired access point and a repeater work differently. Confirm compatibility and price with the installer.

When to review your plan

If simultaneous activities repeatedly saturate capacity despite a good signal, consider a different speed tier. If the problem occurs in one room only, more download speed may not solve it. Tell your adviser what tests you performed.

Distinguish coverage from contracted speed

A problem in one area

Check whether it occurs far from the router or behind obstacles. Ask about placement and extra equipment before assuming you need more speed.

A problem on all devices

Check connections and test over a cable if your device supports it. If the issue continues, contact your provider’s support; buying a different plan is not a technical diagnosis.
